Wedding clothes

Postby JoM » 19 Jul 2014, 09:26

What a dilemma! I never dress up, live in jeans, t shirts and Converse at this time of year, so finding something to wear has been a nightmare. Especially as I didn't want to spend too much knowing it's doubtful that I'd wear whatever I bought ever again.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago I went in Asda for a loaf and spotted a skirt which was a possible. Kept thinking about it so went back a few days later to try it on and see if I could find a top to go with it.

I couldn't find a top in there but tried it with a black cami at home and I have an unworn skinny round neck cardigan (hate my arms anyway but have a t shirt tan which makes things more difficult) and with the dreaded higher than Everest heels it looks really good (might have to get some ballet flats to slip on when the heels inevitably get too uncomfortable). I also have a three quarter sleeve skinny slash neck top which would go if it's too warm for the cardi.

I also saw this as I was on my way out of the clothing department so have a second option. I actually tried it with skinny jeans so it'd be suitable for a wedding reception we're going to in 3 weeks anyway. It's a lot more floaty on, not so nipped in at the waist and the picture really doesn't do it justice. I have a black pencil skirt and the heels from hell so I could also wear it next weekend though.

What colour's your cardi Jo?
Depending on that, a cami other than black would be nice with the skirt - the black would be ok, but it can look a little bit dreary in the middle of summer.

The cardi and cami are black, and I have a big cream silk gerbera to pin on it. Could possibly go with a cream cami but would need to search one out that matches well with the cream in the skirt and I don't have the patience to do that in this weather lol. I did wonder about wearing black but did a bit of research ie looked at the bride to be's photo albums of weddings she'd been a guest at on Facebook and so many guests were wearing black. There was even one, a June wedding, where the bridesmaids wore black dresses which toned with the black trim on the bride's dress and it all looked really lovely.

No, I think you're right Jo, it'll be fine - and the gerbera sounds nice :)

Love the first skirt. I can see that with a little boxy jacket in red or hot pink.

Those are lovely! Like Rodo I would go for a colour rather than black, but they will look great with black as well, and I know people do wear black at weddings these days 8-) :D :D

As you said Jo silly to spend a lot when you would probably never wear them again - I would wear those pieces any time, but then I like dressing up

The gerbera will be a nice touch 8-) :D

I nearly bought that skirt myself! But I had already bought a very similar one from Tescos a few weeks ago, I have an ancient black bolero with elbow length sleeves which goes really well with it (I think I'd like to re-dye it tbh as it's gone a tiny bit 'grey') and I wear that loads.

I was aware when packing for my break last week that a lot of my clothes are monochrome
