I am the evil mother who won't sub Joe £10 out of next month's pocket money so that he can go to the cinema tonight...but he still has two weeks of this month left and then he'd only have £10 for all of next month (he gets £20 a month) and no doubt would need another sub then. Tough.

Honestly Kaz, he's dreadful with money! He had youth club last night and asked for 50p for his payment even though we keep telling him to put some aside for things like that. I only had 40p in change, I had notes in my purse but no way was he going with a £10 note! He managed to find 10p in coppers in his room. Next month I'm going to keep some of his pocket money aside so that he's got money for youth club twice a week. I used to do that when he went regularly but then he stopped going so I'd got out of the habit.

Seriously though, I've no idea how/whether you can change it, other than do as you do and try to keep some back/nag him/refuse to sub

It sounds as though this is just the way he is Jo, but maybe if he misses enough trips with his mates, nights at youth club etc he will decide that saving might be a good idea xxxx
