Morning all
Absolutely lovely here, sunny with a light breeze. We're just back from a gorgeous walk around the sea wall

Bad news though - we know it needs doing but the environment agency are there with lorries and all sorts, and a sign saying the sea wall path will be closed for up to 3 months
Hoping very much they're over-estimating.

I did a bit in the garden yesterday, bedding's washed and about to go out (and it will dry!) and Bb's not working today (he is tomorrow though) so we have yet to decide what else to do.

Why do people tell you that they'll be with you at a certain time and then they aren't!!!

Carpet salesperson - we'll put you down for first thing in the morning so the fitter will be with you between 8.30 and 9am.

Me - to the workmen who have to do some tarmacing at the bottom of the lane which will restrict access - I have the carpet fitter arriving between 8.30 and 9.

Workmen - not a problem, we'll come and do it after 9.30am

Me to carpet people at 10.15am - where is the fitter. He was supposed to be here between 8.30 and 9.

Carpet people - Oh, yeah. He's on his way.

So now, he's going to be stuck at the bottom of the lane, waiting for the workmen to finish tarmaccing the two holes that were dug yesterday by the water board.

And the poor dog could have had a decent walk this morning had I known.

Oooooooo - I'm so mad.

Oh GRRRRRR Debih, what a PITA

Di what a strange time of year to do stuff like that, during the summer Hope it won't take that long! Just about to peg my bedding out too, it's an ideal drying day

I guess whatever it is needs dry weather Kaz, they did quite a stint last year but no actual closures, but then it rained non-stop for about 6 months

They do things like that here!

We are a touristy area and the village is busy from April to October but the absolute busiest times are when the illuminations are on between the beginning of September and the end of October. We literally get thousands of people descending on us every weekend to watch the fireworks and see the illuminated boats. People have to go off the main street and into the river gardens, crossing over one bridge and walking along and out via another bridge (they make it a one way system for safety reasons).

Two years ago the council in their wisdom decided to close one of the bridges for painting - they closed it two days before the illuminations started and opened it again a week after it finished.

They have now just closed the same bridge again to repaint it (again) doing it properly this time. They closed it last week and it is due to be closed for four months - all through the summer and illuminations.

I now have every respect for the carpet fitter!

He has just rung to say that the road is completely closed and he can't get his van through so he is carrying the 3m roll of cushion flooring on his shoulder up our lane - at least a quarter of a mile - so he can get started on the bathroom.

He will then go back for the screed when the road reopens.

All respect to that man!

(Even though it is his fault for being later than he said).

The poor bloke (well, lad really) has arrived with it. Bless him, its a quarter mile walk up a really steep hill and then steps when he gets to the house. He's had a big drink of water and set off back to his van to get his knife and his glue and is keeping his fingers crossed that the road is now open.

Then he has the hurdle of seeing if his van fits through the narrow part of the lane - its a new one and he hasn't been up our lane in it yet.

And all he said about carrying up a 5m x 3m roll of heavy cushion flooring - "well, the jobs got to get done hasn't it".

We've had delivery men refuse to deliver tiny little parcels because they can't get their van through the gap and refuse to walk the couple of hundred yards up the hill to our house.

My hero!

Bright and sunny here

No plans for us, we've just been round to get the papers and intend to be extremely lazy for the rest of the day

We went into town, walked all the way down to the quay and bought lunch - fresh crab sandwich for me and hot pasty for him - sat on the quay to eat, then back up the hill, stopping to buy local strawberries for later on the way
