Oh cor berlimey :o

Confused.com.

I won't bore you with all the shenanigans that has gone on today - but suffice to say, we're happy with 187,000, next door are not too happy with their 140,000   nor are they happy that they have to rent their place to the French people for 6 months - worried about the furniture.

But - I have spoken to our agent, he's going to do all the carappy paperworl, for 2% - The guy these people brought with them - who is not an agent, no idea who he is - he wanted us to pay half of his commission. Confused?? We bluddy were. Ands why the flamin' hell should we pay half their commission anyway?

I got a neighbour, who speaks perfect French, English and obviously Portuguese, to translate everything for us. Gave her a bottle of wine as a thank you.

Our neighbours came round later and had to ask Alexandra to translate again.

But it looks as if it's all going to go ahead. We have a local holiday here on Monday, so nowt can be done until Tuesday, so I'm not going to contact the people whose house we like until the deposit is paid and the contract signed.

Then, we put an offer in for the house we like and have 6 months to sort everything out.

Phew............

Alexandra and I had a little cry earlier, as she has been brilliant to us in all the time we've been here and we have a standing invitation to stay with her and Migel should we ever want to come back here for a visit. And ditto for her xx

Aww Ton, it really does sound as if it's a done deal - but your neighbour is worth her weight in Champagne at the very least ;)

Presumably as here, your neighbours can get the French lot to pay a hefty deposit re damage etc.
It seems that yours and your neighbour's house are exactly what they're after, and any tries at haggling are purely for show ;)
And fingers crossed for the house you want, it's all falling into place :) x
