passports

Postby victor » 09 Mar 2014, 22:33

with the situation of the stolen passports on the missing aircraft not being checked with Interpol-

i wonder what does actually get checked when passport control place your passport in their scanners, does it always connect with Interpol's computer?

when we re-newed our passports in Uk ,i presumed they would be returned to us to be signed for--not so

a private car pulled up outside the house,a guy in ordinary everyday clothes knocked the door,i opened it and he said "mr.d----",i replied "yes" he said "your new passports", i asked if he wanted to see I.D ,no thanks he said,i asked if he wanted a signature,no thanks he replied and off he went.

????? are'nt these things supposed to be very important?

i would love to know how much the passport office? post office? pay guys like him

Mine came through the post as well, despite me being told to expect a courier not even a signature was required - it just plopped onto the mat along with the usual junk mail :? No wonder people's identities get stolen :|

We renewed our passports in 2007 before there was a price increase. The un-used time was credited to the new passport.

Took the photos to the post office to have them checked. They also checked the application form and sent it off without charging us. I must have an honest face.

Our replacement ones were delivered by courier and we had to sign for them.

The old ones were also returned with the corner of the page with the photo and other details cut off.
We have kept them as we take them when we get off the ship when we are cruising as a means of official identification. This has only been challenged once in a shop when we were using our credit card.

We also take a copy of the last page of our passports. I did this at home as the local copy shop said it is illegal to copy the passport details.

Never knew that.

We carry photocopies of our passports, as we have to have id. But we also have our residencias, which have more info on them than the passports anyway.

We were a bit naughty when we renewed our passports - sorted it out with son and he sent them over here - normal post  daft thing.

I think Joe's was the last one we renewed and that was the same - expect a courier and sign for it blah blah blah and it just landed on the mat one day :?

Hmmmm - well, in the accountancy firms I worked for, we always had to see and record "proof of identity". And yes, we used to take copies of passports and driving licences, etc., because we needed to evidence, should there be an enquiry, that we had followed procedures (money laundering, so on).

But IIRC, as we only had a black and white copier, that was OK. If it were a colour copier, we understood that was against the law.

However, I have just discovered this (Institute of Chartered Accountants guidance) which puts an updated slant on it:
