Stupid is.....

Postby Workingman » 05 Mar 2014, 17:13

I bought a combination padlock with three dials.

The destructions said:
The default combination is 0-0-0. To set your own combination use the default combination to open the lock then, keeping the lock still, move the dials to a memorable number. On closing the lock your new combination will be set; turning the dials to a random number will lock the padlock. To open it set the dials to your new combination.

So, Franky opened the lock using 0-0-0 and, keeping it still, turned the dials to the last three of his old service number - very memorable. He then passed the lock through the chain and closed it. He then set the dials to random numbers and it was locked. He then set the dials to the last three of his - very memorable - old service number: STILL LOCKED but with a chain attached! :o

He is now thinking that one or all or any or every dial could have been set at a number above or below the ones he wanted........ He could be some time!

Good job you hadn't tested it out by chaining yourself to something.

Well oddly enough, we got a padlock with a small case we bought which had exactly the same destructions - I followed them to the letter, knew the numbers I had set it to, tested it and it never opened again   So maybe it's the padlock and not you, Franky boy :)

Ria, I love you - you are a genius! <dancing girl emoticon>

Good job I didn't try it on the bed, Debs. "Hello, is that the fire brigade.......?" ( I have two BIL who are firemen)!

Osc, I have now tried setting it wearing my reading glasses, and it works!

Is this combination padlock for a suitcase that you might be bringing to the meet Frank?

Be brave. Be open. You're amongst friends.

We won't mind if your case is packed full of ladies undies and old discarded bingo cards - we'll understand.
