World Book Day

The day that puts the feeling of dread through almost every mother of young children in the UK, and I thought we'd left this behind when Joe left junior school but it seems not!

The school sent a text earlier this afternoon saying that pupils are to dress up as a literary character on Thursday for World Book Day. Joe's said no way and I'm pretty certain he won't be the only one! It's a high school and I'd think that most of the pupils think they're just a bit too cool to play dressing up now

Oh, and they're even worse than the junior school for giving notice of things like this.

Why?

Why should they do this?

It was bad enough at work when we had to dress up for red nose day or something equally daft.

It's okay for the first year or so, but when you have to rushing off to student houses, becuase of a break-in or something equally nasty, the last thing you want to do is turn up with the police/ambulance or whatever, looking a right prat

Silly - it should definitely be restricted to Primary school

Oh I feel your pain Jo.

I was very smug when I was in school this afternoon doing governor stuff as I saw the sign telling parents that it's Works Book Day on Thursday.

Our secondary school does nothing - thank god.

I'm amazed that your high school think the kids will dress up. Ours do for Children in Need but I think it's usually just a mass Onesie day.

Debbie, I remember the boys in particular not wanting to dress up by the time they were in Year 6 so heaven knows who's dreamt this idea up They've never done it before, or at least haven't in the 6 or so years that we've 'known' the school.

Joe said that they have to pay a fine if they don't dress up...but he said that he won't pay that either. My little anarchist

Go in his usual uniform, refuse to pay the fine and say he's from Tom Browns school days.

Or go in jeans and usual shirt and say he's one of the characters from Harry Potter out of school hours!

Or tell them to stuff their infantile world book day dressing up up their bum.
