I honestly can't remember if I've asked this before on the VV forum (early Alzheimers! ) - but ....... have you received your "Better Information" leaflet yet, and if you have done, have you decided to accept it or to opt-out?

My sister's surgery seems to be quite against it, and appears to be publicising "anti" material - she has opted out.

We had our leaflet a month ago, and although I was aware the Guardian quickly did a number on it, I've sat on the fence - until this latest article, this time from the Torygraph. So I'm now going to opt out.

I've no idea what my own surgery's attitude towards it is, and I'm not going to ask them!

Evidently this only applies to the UK, not sure about Scotland and Ireland but it does not apply in Wales. I along with those whom I have discussed this intended intrusion on individuals private information are angry, and state this is absolutely "not acceptable"

I don't understand that statement, Kate. The UK includes Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland.

Personally I an against this idea. The Internet has been repeatedly proved to be an unsafe place to
store any information.

Mick thinks it is a very bad idea.....with his knowledge of online security that's good enough for me! If and when we receive a leaflet we will opt out!

The NHS are putting a huge amount of pressure on individual GPs to be in this scheme, then they are selling this information on to insurance companies etc.......The bond of trust between GP and patient will be destroyed.

We finally got the leaflet last week but we had already opted out.

Yes I had it a while ago and consigned it to recycling. I dont mind in the least who reads my medical history and can only hope they enjoy doing so. I have it typed out and that reminds me to keep a copy with all the other junk I have to carry around like credit cards, driving licence, insurance certificate and a varied assortment of other cards.

I do mind that the information will be used as said by insurance companies, and other organisations intent on making money out of the records.
