Had a wonderful afternoon

Postby Kaz » 18 Jan 2014, 17:43

We popped in to see D (my MIL) as we usually do on Saturday afternoons, and two of Mick's nephews were there! :) They'd come up from Somerset to visit their gran 8-) The eldest has just got back from a teaching job in China, and his photos and videos were quite amazing :D He'd also bought a tiny piece of the Great Wall back with him, for his gran, so I've touched the Great Wall of China, even if I'm never likely to visit it

The best photos of all were of the Terracotta Army - absolutely amazing, they are all different, each 'man' has different features, just like a real army......Rather gruesomely they buried real horses with the Emperor as well as the terracotta ones, and also his wives and concubines, still alive, most likely  :?

He had some really cute footage of the children he was teaching, saying hello to the camera :D  Sam is blue eyed and blond and they had never seen a foreigner before so they were fascinated by him, especially his eyes - in fact everywhere he travelled in China they wanted his photo! The children even followed him to the loo - presumably wanting to see just 'how' different he was

He's off to Hong Kong at the end of this month to take up another post, and to start learning Cantonese - he is fluent in Mandarin already 8-)

His younger brother Matt who was also there this afternoon is taking a similar course to Becky, but at Nottingham instead, and is off to Romania this summer to study wolves and bears, and is hoping to do an exchange year in Canada...........Isn't it amazing what opportunities there are these days for young people?

:) :) 8-)

Apparently there is loads of stuff yet to be excavated, the Emperor was buried pretty much with a whole city!

What a nice day you have had too :) sounds really interesting! I have also heard this about the kids/people being fascinated by us and wonder if they would be like that with me being fair and light eyes etc, must be strange for them!

Glad you had a good day hun

I'm sure they would be Poll, with me too LOL

One of Sam's colleagues out there was an English girl with some Phillipino heritage, and she looks quite Asian - S said they were pretty much shoving her out of the way to get to take his pic? Not interested in her at all :?
