Kaz or anyone else that knows about retail

Postby miasmum » 26 Dec 2012, 17:39

About three weeks ago I bought a kettle from Currys. I plugged it in, it worked so I didn't worry about the receipt.

It is becoming obvious it has a major design fault, every time you fill a mug the steam blows back over your fingers, plus when it is standing on the base you can hear it arcing.

I have my credit card receipt showing £24.99 to Curry's will that be sufficient, especially as it is faulty, not unwanted

Yes - proof of purchase is all that is needed, and you have that with the credit card receipt :) You are entitled to a refund if you want one, so don't be fobbed off with an exchange unless that is what you want ;)

Miasmum,
Write down when and where you bought it. Also say what is wrong and if necessary quote the Sale of Goods Act, as the goods are not fit for purpose. Keep a copy. Take it with you to the store with a copy of your credit card statement.
Just speak slowly and calmly and just insist that you want a full refund. Do not be fobbed off with a replacement or a credit note from the store. You want a refund either to your credit card account or in cash.
I would also send a copy of any correspondence to your credit card company for information incase you have to take it further.
Good luck

I agree with all of the above. I always put electrical goods on my credit card. It is so much easier when problems like yours arise.

I hope you have no problems Shell. I had to return a kettle to Currys earlier this year which was almost a year old, though I did have the receipt, but they immediately offered a refund or exchange with no argument whatsoever.
