I had exactly the same argument with John Lewis of all people. A Nespresso machine was faulty and they absolutely refused to do anything about it………..naturally I quoted the Sale of Goods Act 1979 but they still were not having it. I asked to speak to the manager………he wasn't having it either. Apparently they have a specific agreement with Nespresso that Nespresso will deal with all faulty goods themselves…………………and my paperwork did state that but hell, who reads the paperwork

As it happened, we managed to sort the problem out over the phone but I was incredibly cross about it as I no longer live close to a John Lewis so travelled a fair old distance to return it!!!

They normally are very good Jo, I agree, so I'm cross on your behalf! :(

Molly how annoying! That sounds just wrong to me - whatever agreements companies have between themselves for their own convenience should not affect the customer's consumer rights! :o :( :( xxxx

I absolutely agree and told the manager that he couldn't rewrite consumer law but he was adamant so I either dealt with it myself or it didn't get fixed………….

I am a member of Which? Legal Services. Next time I phone them about something I will ask them about this.

Molly, that's what I've been told by Vax this morning, that they have an agreement with Argos so that guarantee stuff bypasses the retailer, you have to deal directly with them.

The outcome of this morning's call needs it's own thread because I've still got smoke coming out of my ears!

That's a great idea Saundra, you could get some of those Nature Valley Granola bars for in there - they're really tasty! They're around £2 for a box of 6 from most supermarkets.

Amazing how long our gas bottles now last. Put the last one on 1 August 8-)

Buying and using a small work top electric oven has made all the difference 8-)
