This years wreath

Last night was craft group at my friends house. There is usually only 5 of us but there can be up to 10 some months - depending on what other things people have one. We hold it once a month and take it in turns to host it. No matter where we have it my job is to make the cake. Last night was a rhubarb cake.

The December craft group is always the wreath making one - we all take along greenery and one of the women keeps the box of bits and bobs (cinnamon sticks, wire, pine cones, etc) that we all contribute towards throughout the year - we buy things in the sale or just find things when out in the woods - and she keeps the box safe and brings it along each year. My job is usually holly as we have three different varieties in our garden and loads of it.

This is mine. I'm not as pleased with it as other years but I made the decision to just use holly plus the leafy stuff around the edges. No ivy or laurel this year. It still looks nice on the front door though.

They really are very easy to make.

The oasis and holder was £5.50 from Hobbycraft and the rest was free (I have had the cinnamon and seed pods for years).

I always use the same greenery around the edges of the wreath - not sure what it is, some sort of fearn. Then we tend to use different types of holly, ivy, laurel, something with little green bud things on (I'm so good at knowing my local plants), etc. You put any decorations on next (so the cinnamon sticks next) and then bung as much greenery in as possible. Dead easy.

Actually...I have a base wreath, that I did last year with cones and bits.
But next door has lots of ivy that we need to trim back from our side of the wall - I might have a go with the fresh stuff

I'm going to see if I can put a wreath on our door this year. I did the first year we were here but the holder made the door a very tight fit and the insulation strip or whatever it is that's fitted into the bottom of the door fell out - luckily we were still within the 2 years for getting the builders out for any repairs.
At our old house I used to hang the wreath on a piece of ribbon and attach it in the top of the door, under the frame, with a drawing pin but this door is metal and I'm not sure if the top is made of a different material which would take a drawing pin.
