Another night of no heat or hot water

Postby debih » 10 Dec 2013, 17:26

We are now on night number 2. The heating/hot water went on Wednesday, we were without heat and water until Saturday when they came out and did a temporary fix and then came back again yesterday.

He drained down the boiler and then found that it wasn't the part he had ordered it was in fact a bolt that had lost its thread and was causing the leak. So he had to order another part just to get a replacement bolt. And as he had drained the boiler down he couldn't start it up again. So no heat or hot water last night.

He arrived this afternoon (late) with the replacement part only to find that it didn't come with replacement bolts.   So he went through his back of bits and bobs but couldn't find one to fit. Then his mate turned up and they went through his bag and still couldn't find one to fit. So they decided that a trip to an ironmongers tomorrow would be needed.

Then they managed to find the part number for the bolt and have ordered it and it will be delivered tomorrow. He offered to come out for 9am but said that he would be there for at least 2 hours which is no good to me as I have to be at work between 10am and 12pm for a meeting. So he's coming at 12.30 (allegedly).

I didn't have a go at him - its not really his fault. And he was here ages doing whatever he was doing with his mate.

But I rang British Gas Homecare and complained bitterly to them and so far I have got two months knocked off my annual fee. They are crediting it back to me over the next two months.

To be honest it isn't that bad really. Our neighbour is away for a few days and gave me her key this morning so I could feed the cats - when I mentioned the water situation she told me to feel free to use her shower/bath/sink. So the girls have both been round there for a shower and I shall go round later.

We don't use the central heating very often as we have the log burner on and for years our water supply was so hit and miss that we kept bottled water in the shed! It was a very common occurrence to get up and find that we had no water. They had to replace the mains and we had to live with 6 weeks of no water between 8.30am and 4pm so just having water come out of the tap is a bonus!!!! But I didn't tell British Gas that of course - I laid it on very thick to them.

Hopefully tomorrow we will be back to normal.

What a nuisance! Fingers crossed he turns up on time tomorrow, all of the waiting around is a pain in itself!
