Our telephone and internet provider has been bringing in fibre optic lines to the area, which should mean much better broadband, and we registered our interest some months ago. Got a phone call last week to say they would be able to install it this week, and an appointment was made for tomorrow - usual thing, sometime between 9-12 and if it doesn't go right, it could take up to two hours, but might only be 20 minutes . I had a physio appointment for 12 and Mr. Osc will be gone out to golf by then so I cancelled that. I've had two texts and a phone call confirming the date and time.

Mobile rings this afternoon and a woman says "This is eircom, you have an appointment for tomorrow?" I answer yes. Then she says that the technician is overbooked and would I consider moving to the afternoon slot - I just said "No" in a rather uncompromising voice without really meaning to sound so abrupt. There was a taken-aback silence, and then she just confirmed that he would be here in the morning. Honestly....why go to all the trouble of making the flipping appointment, confirming three times and then try to change it Normally I would explain all about my own cancelled appointment and that I wasn't prepared to muck my day up further plus I didn't want to risk losing the installation altogether until goodness knows when - she has probably gone off thinking I'm a right old bag

Yesterday there was a knock at the door and there was a man selling 'good food', freshly frozen...blah, blah, blah. He had already parked his van on our drive and wasn't going anywhere. I said politely that I was in the middle of cooking (which I was) 'good food' and didn't want to buy anything. He refused to go and went to the back of his van,opened the doors and started taking stuff out! I said, 'No, sorry. I don't want anything'. He carried on anyway and I went to the van and said laughingly, 'you aren't going to take no for an answer are you?' He carried on with his spiel, so I just said, 'sorry' quite angrily and left him talking to himself as I went back inside the house. I couldn't believe how rude he was and I was cross that he had made me act in a rude way too

You're much nicer than me lozzles, whenever a salesperson knocks on our door I say no thanks and shut the door before they've even finished the first sentence. E drives me mad, he will stand and let them go on a bit even though he knows we're not interested. I really have to bit my tongue as I'm so tempted to shout 'just shut the b****y door'

Good for you Osc. I have been having an ongoing battle with British Gas over my boiler service for weeks - I make they appointment, they confirm it, the engineer then rings up the day before to cancel it, they make another appointment, I rearrange everything, they confirm it, the engineer rings up the day before to cancel it........... and on it goes.

The engineer is due to come in a couple of weeks time now and god help them if he cancels it the day before.
