Ooops!

Postby Workingman » 22 Aug 2013, 12:23

The expansion vessel on my boiler was leaking from the joint to the manifold, just the odd drop now and again. Now, I know that I should not be in there, but I am technically experienced enough to put a bit of pipe tape on a joint and tighten it up again. ;) Says he.

So, I turned off the gas, electricity and water and began to unscrew it when I realised that I had forgotten the header tank! Thankfully I had put a bucket under before starting........ drip, drip, drip, drip, whoosh! I was quick enough to screw it back in, but then spent ages doing bucket to window: empty. Swap! Wash up bowl to window: empty. Repeat as necessary.

It's now back together and watertight, but it was close!

It's a block of metal with a number of inlets and outlets and internal drillings and valves connecting them. It saves on pipework, esp in small places.

Got it?

No, no, no. You're thinking of washing machines where the flange bracket holds the balance grommet for the drum counter-weight. :-P :-P :-P
