We had cookery lessons in school when I was a girl, as we had elocution, sport, etc now that was 70 odd years ago.. How things change.... And not for the better.

Yes, I quite agree. when I was at school, back in the 1930s, we had cookery for the girls, woodworking for the boys, and swimming lessons,gardening, physical training, and one afternoon a week on the sports field. And I reckon we still had time for a better education in the essential subjects of reading, writing and arithmetic. We also learned discipline - something that is sadly missing today, and which is, in my opinion, the root cause of many of society's problems today.

Yes you are right John we had all of those subjects as well, with the whole school having assembly a service every morning.. We Also Wrote With Nibs on our pens "No Biro's"!! I also had whacks on my rear many a time as did others if they did not conform We have a bit of a perv a master called Tichy Evans, he loved that slipper that we (I) felt the sting of on many occasions.
