Ideas please

Postby tonicha » 07 Dec 2012, 16:34

Today I bought some dark chocolate small cups. Which need filling with something.

My idea is to have something scrummy for Christmas Day and as I'm an absolute novice on this, wondered what I could do.

I can get custard, squidgey cream and that's about it. No vanilla pods, maybe sprinkles.

What ideas could you give me please? xxx

First thought was ganache, like a chocolate truffle - but can you get cream? I think you can substitute butter, but you'd have to google to check
Here's a ganache recipe:

Otherwise just fill 'em with brandy - I used to love Lindt's chocolate bar filled with it :D

I also thought about a ganache type filling.

Or what about some lovely berries - you can soak them in an alcoholic syrup first and put them in the cups.

In fact sod it - forget the cups and the berries. Just drink the alcohol.

:P :P :P :P

Truffle.

Not the things pigs find, but a mix of old sponge and digestive biscuits moistened with a thimble of rum or brandy. Once filled top them off with glace cherries and and a swirl of icing.

Now why did I now think of just pouring brandy into them???

Cream we can't get like you can, but I can get a sort of cream, which I'll add things to. Brandy possibly :)

Thank you for all you (alcoholic) ideas :D

Whats a thimble

I'll have a look next week when we go shopping, to see what I can find. Am keeping it quiet, so Grumpy will have a, hopefully, nice surprise.

If you have my sort of fingers it is like an egg cup with deeper sides :o ..... and I was thinking of one per filling of each chocolate cup - ALE take note. ;)
