My mum had quite a few records, all sorts, from Elvis singles to Lps of musicals like South Pacific. Sunday mornings were spent doing the housework to them, then as I got older (from about 7!) there were mine to choose from too
But it did surprise them when they came home one day and found me playing Glenn Miller

Oh wow Di really? It was exactly the same in our house! My mum had Buddy Holly, Elvis, Bill Haley She also had all the show tunes - South Pacific, West Side Story, My Fair Lady.............etc. I still remember the words to most of them.

We played her favourite Buddy Holly at her funeral - "Raining in my Heart"

Oh yes, all of those, except not Buddy Holly. It was something we shared, she took me to my first ever concert when I was 11 - it was, wait for it, Cat Stevens, Englebert Humperdink, The Walker Brothers, and.......Jimi Hendrix

I love Ocean Colour Scene as you know, Paul Weller, The Who, The Small Faces and so Luke is used to listening to them and loudly. When we were looking at homes for him, our requirement was that they had to have English as a first language and understand his musical tastes and be prepared to encourage his love of music. To start with all was well, Billy was our age, also loved Paul Weller, however they also have a lot of youngsters there, so he now loves Taio Cruz and the other day came home with a note in his book "could you download some Pit Bull onto Luke's iPod"

Thank the Lord that Billy still takes him out and sent me a text the other week saying Luke and I want to know who sang "Me and You and Dog named Boo"

He had been on the convoys to the States towards the end of the War and those were what he brought back or bought later.

It was the Walker Brothers farewell tour, we saw them at the ABC, Aldershot

Bill Haley

I used to love it when my Mom got out the big heavy pile of 78s, Rock Around The Clock was a favourite of mine when I was little.
She still has the concert programmes from when she saw Bill Haley and The Comets and also Johnny Ray, amongst others...seems she was quite the concert goer in the 50s. Must be where I get it from...
My sister grew up in the 60s and was a Beatles fan so I had her to influence me too.
