Attempted Trump assassination.

Postby cromwell » 14 Jul 2024, 09:48

This is where stirring up hate leads to; trying to kill someone.
The media who have been demonising Trump for years should have a good long look at themselves, but they won't.

The standard knee jerk calls for gun confiscation will start up, but what interests me is this - why does no one ever examine why the would be assassin wanted to kill someone? A gun is a more efficient way of killing someone than other things, but the desire to kill is the thing that matters; and it never seems to be addressed.

I was going to post this crommers. There is a lot of video of this and much more info on X.

According to people who were there the roof was 150yds from trump with a clear field of fire. Watchers saw him and were yelling at the ss but no response. 8 or 9 shots were fired before the ss sniper fired one shot and killed the shooter. Thing is people are claiming the ss sniper had the gunman under his sights and did not fire until multiple shots were fired at Trump. If true someone didn't give release to fire.

At best this is a monumental failure of the ss in securing the venue.

Also the shooter sucks. From 150 yds, even with standard sights, my grouping is 1 inch over 5 rounds. Thats with a crappy slr with extremely poor sights. The AR15 is a far more accurate weapon even with standard blade sights.

I cannot be the only one who is surprised that this is (reportedly) the first carried out attempt.

Trump is a divisive figure, even among Republicans, and it was a registered Republican who did the deed. A few mm to the left and the bullet that grazed his ear would have been in his head.

This might not be the last attempt. It only takes one to get through.

Trump has done a thoroughly good job of demonising himself, Crommers. He should be having a good long look at himself, IMO. But he won't.

I think that what it has done is to put the US Presidential election to bed.

Trump will now bee seen as a martyr to the cause and that will attract a lot of voters, especially from the disaffected and undecided.

The Democrats might as well give up.

It has though Saundra.

In June 2016, a 20-year-old British man from Surrey, Michael Steven Sandford, attempted to grab a police officer's pistol, later telling the US Secret Service of his desire to murder Trump and indicating that he would try again. Sandford was treated surprisingly leniently, the US judge telling him that “You should not be ashamed or embarrassed about it. You need medication. “You’re not a hardened criminal. You’re not evil or a sociopath like a lot of people we have” before sentencing him to 12 months and one day's imprisonment. Sandford served only five months. On his return to Surrey, the BBC ‘s main concern was its “…fears Mr Trump might seek to intervene and keep him in jail for longer, or block his return to the UK.”

More attempts on Trump’s life occurred while he was in office. In September 2017, in North Dakota, Gregory Leingang stole a forklift and attempted to drive it toward the presidential motorcade. He later admitted that he was trying to kill Trump by flipping the presidential limousine. Predictably, his lawyers’ defence was that he was “suffering a serious psychiatric crisis” during the incident, for which he was sentenced to five years in jail.

In October the next year an envelope laced with ricin was sent to Trump by William Allen, who pleaded not guilty. Another ricin attempt was made in September 2020, when Pascale Ferrier wrote, in a ricin-laced letter addressed to Trump, that he should drop out of the 2020 presidential election and that he is an "ugly tyrant clown". She was sentenced to nearly 22 years in prison and said at her trial that she considered herself to be an “activist” rather than a “terrorist.”

So there have been attempts to murder Trump before; some more serious than others.

When I spoke of demonisation perhaps I should have mentioned Mr David Aaronovitch, progressive journalist of these shores.

Mr Aaronovitch, who presents BBC Radio 4's "The Briefing Room", recently tweeted that Trump should be murdered, saying that “If I was Biden I’d hurry up and have Trump murdered on the basis that he is a threat to America’s security,” Aaronovitch is still at the BBC.

That is the kind of "journalism" I was talking about and I stand by my criticism of it. Or I could have mentioned Jo Brand "joking" about throwing battery acid in Nigel Farage's face. Big joke.

By the way, Aaronovitch has now tried to portray himself as a victim, which is a typical reaction by people like him. He deleted the tweet only for others to resurrect it at which point Aaronovitch said he was "being ironic" and that people had "endangered me" by putting it up again.

Cromwell, those actions you mention were passive attempts, they were never going to get through. The perpetrators knew that.

The latest was active, A JFK type offence. A man with a rifle going for a direct kill from some range. Had he succeeded who knows where we might be.
