Has anybody got a SodaStream?

Postby Workingman » 10 May 2024, 14:16

I like fizzy drinks but I stopped doing "pop" when the sugar tax came in because it all became various chemical cocktails with fizz. Some of those chemicals can be dangerous, so not for me.

Instead of 'pop' I initially went for sparkling spring water, but goodness it is expensive! Even 'own brands' of unknown source (pun) are about 70p/ltr so I got a SodaStream.

I use tap water because it is 99% pure and once carbonated I get more than 60ltr for about 21p/ltr. Leeds tap water came third in the last nationwide taste test, and Yorkshire Water do not add fluoride, so I am lucky.

I mix it with pure fruit juices, My favourites are pink grapefruit, cherry, and grenadine. Just saying. :D

Blimey, that’s taken me back a bit! I had one of those old metallic red ones as a wedding present, back in 1977!!

I Googled, the one I had is now on eBay as “vintage” - as I guess I am these days :P :?

Me! I’ve had one for a few years now, love it. I don’t use any of the flavourings, I just use it for sparkling water, as I don’t like our tap water, and I can help the environment by not sending several plastic bottles to the recycling every week.

+ 1.A few drops of pure lime or lemon juice and a spoonful of sugar makes a "pop" of the old style.

We have one. Use Evian in it and I prefer it plain.

I know. ;)

Now, coming back to the OP.

I was just shopping in ASDA and looked at SStream gas canisters as the one I have is about to run out, and I also saw the "syrups". Wow, £4.99 for a 440ml bottle to make 9 litres! Not that much cheaper than the real chemical cocktail stuff.

I get Gousa(sic) 500ml pure fruit juice concentrates / purees from the Asian supermarket for £2.99 ish, depending on the fruit, and they make about 15ltr. OK, I might have to add "some" sugar to make a sweeter drink, but not always.
