Fiddling with the weather

Postby cromwell » 15 Apr 2024, 11:08

Or Geoengineering, or global dimming.

For whatever reasons, several well known billionaires are interested in trying to control the weather. Climate change and all that.

Bill Gates has already had a go, backing a Harvard University project, spraying calcium carbonate into the atmosphere in the skies over northern Scandinavia in 2021.
Time magazine has an article.
https://time.com/6258126/solar-geoengin ... rge-soros/

Look at the names in that article.
George Soros, Bill Gates, Dustin Moskovitz, Jeff Bezos.

Here's another decent article.
https://www.sierraclub.org/sierra/solar ... ritics-say

In autumn 2022 the UK launched it's own geoengineering test flight, releasing sulphur dioxide into the atmosphere at a high altitude. MIT article here.

So, somethings going on.
It might be a coincidence that we've had eighteen months of the wettest weather ever recorded.

But overall billionaires like Soros have a saviour complex - he's admitted it - and if they want to try this unknown and dangerous technique out, they will.
If they aren't already.

The global economy demands that we have to have "stuff" and lots of it, and that is what is really behind solar geoengineering.

I have said many times that all these schemes flying under the banner of "Climate Change" are a bit of a con. All the windmills and solar panels and heat pumps and electric cars, and other things, including solar geoengineering, are designed to allow the growing billions of us to keep-on, keeping-on with our lives as we now know them.

What they have not done is reduce the greenhouse gases we pump into the atmosphere; in fact, they are still going up! What we need to be doing is reducing them and that is not going to happen - It would take tectonic shifts in the way we all live. it would take decades anyway.

Another thing is that nothing is being done to stop or slow down our gobbling up of Earth's finite resources and in the process ruining environments in addition to the atmosphere, such as marine and on land - we are damaging the whole biosphere. And we had better not mention global population reduction.

So, we are going to modify the stratosphere, are we? And the unknown or unintended consequences of that will be.....?

That's the 64 thousand dollar question, isn't it?
They don't know what the side effects may be.
They are just as likely to do harm as do good.
It's incredibly risky.

The Earth's atmosphere is the thing that sustains life and is also one of the mechanisms that protects it

It is bound to the planet by gravity and, as far as I can tell, there is not much we can do about that: thank God.

Another protector is the magnetosphere created by the iron rich core, and it is another thing we can do little about. It acts a bit like a global Faraday cage deflecting the solar wind, which is a mixture of cosmic electromagnetic radiations such as gamma rays, X-rays, UV rays and so on. For most of the time it works well, but there are instances when the Sun's coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and sun spots can overwhelm it disrupting satellites, telecommunications and electricity grids. Fortunately, they are temporary.

It is also known to be weaker at the poles and that is where the atmosphere's ozone layer steps in and we get the Auroras. The stratosphere's ozone layer absorbs much of the UV charged particles and without it life on Earth would be, err, difficult. We were once destroying the ozone layer with fluorocarbons such as HFCs and CFCs and is why we started banning them from the 1980s.

So, what do these rich kids now want to do? They want to throw stuff up into the stratosphere without knowing the results. Why? Because they can. Do they have the permission of billions of humans? No! Should they be stopped? Yes!

Fully agree.

But the billionaires of the world seem to have great influence over our politicians.

They want to keep doing what they are doing and just "fix it".

If it were that easy it would have been done decades ago. But they will keep trying.

Meanwhile for every 1C that we raise the temp of the earth above the pre-industrial average, the atmosphere can hold 10x the water. So 1C 10 times. 2C 100 times. Right now we are averaging around 1.5C. So 50x the water that the atmosphere could hold back in the 1700's.

It's going to be a LOT wetter. And hotter. What does that sound like? Yep the jungle. What was it like when the Dino's roamed the land and CO2 was at 550ppm? Yep, like a jungle swamp.

It's gonna be great... Well not really but you will hear a lot of that.

In the 1990s the IPCC came up with an index of greenhouse gases and set it at 1.0. It had three strands - short lived, 'All' and CO2. It said nothing about climate change all it did was tell us where we were.

Short lived were at 1.0, All was at about 0.95 and CO2 was 0.6.

Today the numbers are: Short lived at 1.7, All at 1.5 and CO2 at 0.9.

I'll try and find the graph as I have lost it.

And the Sheiks have put their foot in it, by seeding the clouds.

Yep. They have caused a one time event.

The problem is not that they can cause this event. It is that events like this will start to happen naturally and more frequently than 1,000 years.

We don't need cloud seeding here in Leeds. April looks likely to be a month without one dry day in it!
