Here people leave washers and stuff out side by the gate and put a message on local fb page
In the old days we burnt stuff on the fire especially tooth past tube and shoes took ages to burn and the hot water used to bubble if tho I had a back boiler
But the fog was absolutely thick terrible times
We don't pay to have put brown bin to be empty ed

Well apart from the shoebox a lot of it was true...

"Mum, can I have a biscuit?"
"No, you can have some bread and butter."
"But muuum... I'm hungry."
"If you're not bread and butter hungry then you're not hungry. Now off with you."

The number of times we had that conversation! ;) :D :D

It weren't just 'oop north', then.

I now want to know Saundra's thoughts on lard.

Mum used it in all her pastries and they were heaven. Pie crusts were to die for.

When Stork became popular she tried it but soon went back to lard - a good move IMO. ;)

W M today's generation would not believe our diet
Back in the day I lived like everyone else yes lard in the chip pan 3meals a day no inbetween food like modern day burgers and stuff in fact I still use lard to fry with i don't like olive oil or the spray stuff
I love butter but don't buy it now to dear
And if never had a kfc meal in my life or taken my family for one
Today it's a different world

I still use lard in pastry, half lard half butter. That was how we made it at school in the mid 80s.
