MrsC was rung up today by her Uncle Jim.
Could he borrow a chisel?
"Why do you want a chisel?" says she.
"To chip the ice off the fridge" he says.

I can just imagine what would happen if Jim tried defrosting the fridge with a chisel! It doesn't bear thinking about!

In saying that, my daughter in law used a knife to defrost a freezer - went straight into the casing

Yes, well....

The ex took the food baskets out of the freezer, put them on the bed and covered them in a duvet and blankets. Then she put the hair dryer on hot, shoved it in the freezer and shut the door!

Not long later there was the smell of burning, a huge "pop" and all the electricity went off. :o

It seemed like a good idea at the time to get a quick defrost.

Jo, we’ll be getting a new freezer soon, one of ours has come to the end of its useful life (we think we have had it about 25 years. What brand did you get?

It’s actually the freezer part of the fridge freezer Osc. We bought our last one as an emergency before we moved as the one at our old house wouldn’t fit in the space in the kitchen here and got a Samsung one. Not a make I’d considered before.

I always hated the design of it, simply because it had a water dispenser in the door which impacted on interior space but it lasted over 12 years so when we replaced it I chose another Samsung because I’ve not been able to fault the actual appliance.
