The worst kept secret...

Postby Workingman » 12 Jul 2023, 22:13

... is out.

The media *star* is Huw Edwards.

Honestly, anyone who watches the BBC News will have noticed his reduced appearances in recent weeks and his total absence this last week. The BBC must have known this for a while. That's why he has been talked about on unsocial media, in pubs and clubs and at the school gates.

It was an open secret!

The BBC, as with Savile, Bashir, Rolf Harris and other scandals, has handled this badly.

They, the BBC, have created this total speculation frenzy.

He's a bit of a perv, yes, but unlike others he has not broken any laws; allegedly. Just get rid and do a lot more background work before creating more *stars*. like Myrie, Fiona (I am me), Laura, Zoe, Lineker. and the lightweight Victoria.

Stop creating *stars* and just give us presenters / news readers. Pay decent wages and that's it.

The night Rita Chakrabati broke the news Tim looked at me and said “where’s Huw?” How we laughed at something so implausible.

Not sure if I just don’t follow social media enough but he genuinely wasn’t on my radar so I was thoroughly shocked

But having watched BBC news I’m now just thoroughly annoyed. How is this the fault of The Sun? If the BBC had told him to resign back in May and given out a statement along the lines of Huw Edwards has left the BBC with immediate effect no further statement will be given, people would have speculated probably for ever but that would have been it. Unless of course he carried on, but that wouldn’t have looked like a cover up.

No one is mentioning the second young person who he met on a dating app and acted the same. Then sent them a text of expletives when they threatened to name him. The bbc admitted yesterday they’d seen the text and verified the number, but that’s been conveniently forgotten.

There may still be a case to answer if the Met has handed this to South Wales police as it outside their jurisdiction

Let’s not forget this is the same company and police force that covered up Jimmy Saville for years. Not that this is in the same league but nonetheless

The other thing I’m really angry about is the unfairness between Huw Edwards and Philip Schofield. Schofield really didn’t do anything wrong, unwise yes, but not wrong. His biggest crime was lying yet he’s lost everything The BBC are still treating Edwards like a benign national treasure and it’s all the fault of that nasty newspaper. If only the young person’s family had gone to a broadsheet!

I think increasingly how you are treated depends on who you are.
Huw Edwards will be treated with kid gloves because imo he believes the "right" things.

If anybody doubts that, think how Boris Johnson would have been treated by the BBC if he had been caught paying young men for sexualised photos!
But Huw is one of their own, so the BBC will try to minimize his incredibly sleazy behaviour and shift the focus to the Sun.

Stories in the press today about Huw Edwards behaving "inappropriately" with junior members of staff at the BBC, btw.

I absolutely agree with this. I caught a little of Channel 4 news last night, and was shocked by how much they seemed to be almost making excuses for Huw, and talking about his mental health. What about the mental health of the two young people, exploited by someone with money and power, for his gratification? :? Lots of people have mental health issues, it doesn't make them jump online and perv at teenagers :(

Exactly Kaz.

It seems that whenever somebody famous gets caught with their trousers down they immediately try to portray themselves as a victim.

Of his parents knew for 3years about the money being paid to their son
Why didn't they go to the police and report the case

Sorry, Saundra, I don't get this. Whose parents? Edwards'. Which son?

According to the BBC's own timeline of events this all started back in April when the girl's family complained to the police, with Edwards named..

Frustrated at the delay and inaction by the police the family then contacted the BBC in person with the presenter's name. That was on May 18. On Friday May 19 the family complained, by phone, to the BBC. The complaint was logged and an investigation began.

It then gets a bit murky with lots of "they said", "we said" tit for tat ping-pong. This went on till July 6 when the Sun took the case on, then all hell broke loose.

The BBC now says that three junior members of staff also reported that they were sent messages by Edwards making them feel uncomfortable.

It is now looking as though the BBC knew about Edwards' "inappropriate behaviours" for far longer than the last week, months even, but failed to act.

Talk about digging your own hole...

Completely agree Kaz about the victims mental health but then again the second young person seems to have been completely erased from the whole saga
