Boomerangs

Postby Workingman » 01 May 2013, 19:40

Are they this summer's lads toy?

I went for a walk after tea, or dinner, as you southerners say, and there were five lads on the playing fields throwing boomerangs. It looked like great fun. Some were the traditional bent stick sort, but others were technological marvels that made a screaming sound as they flew though the sky. Some had three wings!

I want a boomerang..... :P

No Jo, they were solid, about 2 ft in dia, and had holes in. They 'screamed' when thrown.

Back in the 60's, as a child, I had a genuine Aussie one! We had two Australian "cousins" who came over here when they were in their 20's to work. One of them was a pretty good cricketer and had a summer season playing locally for (from memory) Walsall CC.

As for the boomerang, as far I can recall, we could never get it to come back ....... :D

My favourite ever teacher, Mrs Ashby, who taught me in my last year of junior school travelled every school holiday and one time she went to Australia, bringing back with her a boomerang which would make appearances in outdoor games lessons. We got plenty of exercise running around to the houses backing onto the school to ask if we could retrieve the boomerang from their gardens

They sound great fun.

The only drawback is that you can't throw them away when you get fed up with them.

Good night

I don't like the thought of Luke with a hard boomerang, knowing him he'd knock his teeth out
