Time to rein in AI?

Postby Workingman » 30 Apr 2023, 15:24

Over 1,000 scientists and other experts think so, as reported here.

We are already producing androids (robots) with vastly enhanced versions of our own senses of Sight, Sound, Smell, Taste, and Touch. We are producing shape-shifting metals and repairable "skins" along with walking and talking androids with opposable 'thumbs' and they are much stronger, in the physical sense, than we can ever hope to be. For now they look like us so that we will accept them.

Behind the scenes we have AI systems in industry and parts of governments that can make independent decisions and implement them without any human interaction. Goodness knows what some armed forces, ours and theirs, are up to... they are not going to let us know any time soon are they?

We could be well on the road to making ourselves obsolete if we are not careful.

We are already well on the road to making the general working population obsolete.

We ripped the lid off Pandora's box then turned the box upside down and trampled it in the rush to "one up" everyone else.

Too late.
