... you mess with my bus pass at yer peril!

Seriously, given the grey vote, what a pre-election clanger to drop.

Don't beat about the bush , come out and say what you really mean! 8-)

Seriously though, that's the first thing I thought when I heard about this. Why start all this stuff about putting the squeeze on pensioners' "perks" when it is pensioners who are the ones most likely to turn out and vote. It is like putting a Mickey Finn in your own tea.

By the time I get there, all of the pensioners perks (for want of a better word) will have been removed :( A couple of years back I was only 8 years away from retiring and all the freebies that go with it - now I'm still 12 years away, and half expecting that to get changed before I get there

At least at the moment there is a choice for the rich to take or not to take, however, given what is being said it would not surprise me that in the future these things are means-tasted.

Yes Kaz they do have a habit of moving the goal posts don't they. I only had about a couple of extra months to do when I retired so got out just in time as that's when they came up with the extra time.

I would go further; I think that in the future the old age pension itself will be means tested.

I still think that they will be shooting themselves in the foot.

Typical this. Gordon Brown raids private pensions to the tune of 19 billion. Causing a 100 billion contracting back in.

20 years of thatcherite economics destroyed in less than one parliamentary term.

So what happens? Yes, we blame the Tories who are trying to fix the mess.

Blame the right people. Destroy the Labour vote.

Of course the reward for that ineptitude will be another term in government. These cycles repeat until they become so bad that radical action has to be taken.

We ar are supposed to be cleverer.

Then we wonder why democracy doesn't work!
