Delivery Robots.... hmmm.

We’ve had them for for a good few years, they started in lockdown. They are lovely. Make people smile, children laugh and say please and thank you when you help them. What’s not to like?

Had a parcel delivered yesterday afternon by one of the courier firms. The driver initialy just putit on the step when I opened the front door.
Buit when he saw me he stepped inside with the big parcel and putmit at the bottom of the stairs.
Would a robot do this. Can they reach the bell push?
I am not against technology but I like the personal touch and to speak to people.

They are only little. They’re not looking to do deliveries per se. Ours are used by initially the Co-Op then Tesco Express and the local fish and chip shop. But they are not the fastest mainly because of the time it takes them to cross roads so not sure whether I’d want them delivering my tea

No they are locked and should you try to hijack one they screech. One fell off the curb trying to avoid the road works and a nice chap tried to pick it up and it said "I am alarmed, please do not lift me" The chap said alarmed or not you cant stay there all day and picked him up. He didnt screech, just scurried off on his journey. But they do screech as some children found out trying to move them outside the co-op.

The whole idea is ballcocks.

Hundreds of dumb boxes ambling about our roads and pavements when one driver and a van can do the same job in a fraction of the time.

It's 'group think' nonsense gone large. Where have all the practical people and questioners gone?

Oh. hang on, the bots are saving the planet. They are electric so no emissions - a win-win. Except that their electricity is 50% from fossil fuels - gas and coal - and there are more of them than a single van engine. Well done you idiots!
