Ria, this is not wholy a dealership problem, it is a manufacturer's guarantee problem. Check the purchase Ts & Cs the conditions in the guarantee and also the car insurance, be it separate or in the purchase price..

If the insurance was part of the purchase price get in touch with them and explain. Also get in touch with the manufacturer as I feel sure that a technical breakdown in three month would be a cert for an immediate temporary replacement.

Also contact Citizen's Advice.

What are the symptoms of the fault?

Frank, it's a Volvo bought brand new from the local Volvo dealer and they have Volvo insurance and Volvo assist; so everything with Volvo direct. Apparently the auxiliary drive belt (whatever that may be) has shredded.

Ria, an aux belt usually drives the water pump, alternator, AC compressor and power steering pump.

It is driven by a fixed crankshaft pulley turning the pulleys of the items mentioned, plus a tensioner.

It is a £10 part and if it is only a belt change for about half and hours work. This can go up if any of the other pulleys or bearings need changing, but even then it should be no more than a few hours work.

My bet is that it is the tensioner unit, so no big deal.

Good luck.
