No one person can be knowledgeable in all the goings on in all the ministries - we all accept that. What they, as PM, should be able to do is appoint people who can, with the aid of civil servants, run those ministries competently. They then need to be able to listen to the advice from those ministers, and the arguments for and against that advice, before making policies.

To do that needs good man-management, yet those skills seem to be bottom of the pile when it comes to picking a "leader".

You can have a good "man manager" who is a PR disaster. The PM needs to be a PR success first and a good manager second. The rest are then down the list a bit.

There are no good outcomes for the Conservatives.

It would be in some ways hilarious if Boris rose from the dead. All that plotting, the months long media campaign and back he comes.

But if he did, it would all kick off again. There is a standards committee chaired by Labour MP Chris Bryant that is out to get him. (Captain Underpants, the moral arbiter of Parliament, God help us).
The media would have an apoplexy, the sneering and sniping would kick off again.
But more importantly the Sunak backers would throw their toys out of the pram, refuse to co-operate, vote with Labour - it would be anothe festival of backbiting, and his own side would want to do Johnson in. If Boris won - and you wouldn't rue it out - it would be meltdown time again.

Mordaunt has no chance, she's after a big job from the winner.

He was plotting against Johnson for months. The "ready4rishi" website was registered in December 2021, months before Johnson was overthrown.
And let's be honest, who likes a plotter, a backstabber, a man who professes loyalty whilst going around behaving in a most disloyal manner? Not many people. Certainly not the Conservative party members, who wouldnt have Sunak last time; which is why they have been sidelined as much as possible this time.
Tory MP's might prefer Sunak, but in no world whatsoever is he going to turn the Tory fortunes around. He can only limp on for two years under attack from his own right wing and his own members, before the SS Conservatives hits the iceberg.

Like I say, no good outcomes. So we may as well have the GE now.

There is no good outcome but there are less destructive ones. A new PM, Tory MP's whipped to the bone under threat of deselection, perhaps even Boris back and removing the enquiry as a vote of confidence to make the Tory MP's behave and vote it down.

That would stop the press meltdown and allow a solid 2 years of government before the next election.

Any Tory MP that crosses the floor in this parliament is a dead duck in the next GE. They need to remember they hold Tory seats, not Labour.

There is a lot to play for, but Sunak is not the player they need.

Lots of Tory Midnight oil will be burned and lots of scenario's gamed out.

The end result? We'll find out in a few weeks.

The Commons Privileges Committee is already in session and has taken evidence, so I see no way it can be stopped. Also, as it is House of Commons business, any recommendations of the committee are traditionally a free vote - no whipping allowed.

Any attempt to unilaterally can it would provoke more than a media meltdown, the country at large would be apoplectic. It would be the end of the current Conservatives.

BTW Harriet Harman is the chair, not Chris Bryant after he recused himself.

Sunak is not the answer, actually nobody is. Whoever wins the country is in for two years of limbo government unless we get a GE.

Well there is a free vote and a free vote if you still want to be selected for the next GE.

The media and the public might go into a meltdown but without constant input from this commission, it would slowly die a death.

As you say, nobody is the answer right now, but some answers are better than others. For the Tories at least. If not for the country.

Evidence from 2021 and 2022 through to the resignation of Johnson, and the events that brought him down, show that the media and the people did not want him in office. He was the master of his own downfall. Even now he is detested by most of the masses.

Bringing him back will reignite their feelings and could do long lasting damage to the Conservatives. They would be wise to avoid him, unfortunately they are thick as mince. Bring him on.

But did you consider that the only person they could bring back and Not face calls for an immediate election is Johnson. Because he is the Tory leader who won the last election.

I'm sure it has occurred to plenty in the party although it only recently occurred to me.

Imo Sunak is bound to win, come what may.
I wonder if those who are pushing him so hard have considered what effect that film clip of the young public schoolboy Sunak saying that he had no working class friends is going to have in red wall seats?
Crash and burn.
If the Tories had defended Johnson instead of turning on him they could have ridden out the storm. But loyalty seems to be beyond them.
