Talking to a friend

Postby victor » 18 Jul 2022, 09:14

She said her daughter son in law and granddaughter (a minor) been visiting from Canada, parents went back leaving the granddaughter here.
They had booked her flight back and paid for a hostess to travel with her.
On arrival at Heathrow yesterday morning the child was refused boarding as she was not vaccinated.
Same airline that flew her to U.K.
So now Grand parents have to find about 3000 Canadian dollars to fly back with her

How can this be right

The rules on travelling change by the day.

I am going on a cruise from Southampton to Spain and Portugal. In have to have a PCR test 48 tours before I board. Cost £49.00
Also have to complete a health questionaire two days before I board. This has to be done on a mobile phone.
Have also to download copies of the vaccination records onto your Set Sail Pass. Very time consuming as I am not very good at this.

That beggars belief Vic!

Don's just filled in the Spanish health form online that we need to get back into Spain as well as his QR prrof of vaccines.

No proof. No entry. Simples.

Ally,no idea what rules Canada or Air Canada have but they flew her to UK so how can they refuse to fly her back.

Grandmother now wonders if she will be allowed to take her

The carrier for the flight from Canada to the UK is only responsible for the correct documentation for the arrival country. With all due respect, the parents should have made sure they had all the facts about re-entry into Canada themselves, that is not the responsibility of the airline; their job is to make sure that all regulations are met before allowing travel - which they obviously have done and the grand daughter didn't for whatever reasons meet entry requirements.

I'm a bit bemused what difference it makes though whether the granddaughter flies as an accompanied minor vs with her grandparents; given it's the vaccination status that is being questions, not who she is travelling with.

It is all in the rules. A very quick check shows.

Unvaccinated and partially vaccinated children under the age of 12 are not required to provide a valid pre-entry test result, if they are accompanying a fully vaccinated adult.

I am assuming that this means if they are not travelling with a vaccinated adult they need to get tested. But I'm not sure not ever having looked at ArriveCan.

I read the same thing and wondered the same. The hostess would have had to be a vaccinated adult, and if that was not the case she would have been disallowed.

Parental problem not the airline's
