I am not sure what the difference is between one set of MPs having something to eat and drink at the end of a meeting and others sitting in a garden having something to eat and drink at the end of a meeting. But obviously there is a difference.

Actually there was a difference. One set were at a location where they had worked and were expected to work on a daily basis. The others had gone somewhere for a meeting with significant travel and, then, had a beer after.

The first lot were all wrong and had to be fined. The second lot were, clearly, not doing anything wrong.

With hindsight this just proves how senseless and unworkable the rules were. That they were changed on more than one occasion did not help matters for most of us at home who were confined to barracks. I still think Rishi Sunak was unlucky when he arrived early for a meeting and hovered in the doorway for a few minutes, as it got him a fine for just passing through.

He didn't break the rules, end of. They were electioneering and that was an exemption. The whole thing was a complete waste of the Durham police's time, and taxpayers’ money.

Well unfortunately the Conservatives created the posts of Police and Crime Commissioner and let politicians stand for them. So the fact that Durham Police, controlled by the Labour politician and Durham PCC Joy Allen, didn't find the Labour leader Keir Starmer guilty is hardly a shock.
Whereas the Met Police controlled by Labour Politician and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan found the Conservative Leader Boris Johnson guilty.

Doubtless a coincidence.
