Sometimes I think I'm just a silly old woman

Just been catching up on The Zoo, which is a super programme here on the day to day life of Dublin Zoo, this is the fourth series and it's absolutely terrific, you get to know the keepers and the animals. One of their older giraffes, Hayley, suddenly couldn't get up, and they spent a whole day trying to get her back on her feet, she kept trying herself but just couldn't. They decided to leave her one more night with her herd and mounted an all night watch over her, with the idea of putting her to sleep the next day - but she passed away in the early hours of the day, and I'm sitting here with leaky eyes I've seen giraffes in the wild and they are the most elegant and graceful animals. It's an inspiration to see how the zoo keepers in Dublin absolutely love their animals and are completely involved in their care and welfare. Series 1-3 are currently being shown on Animal Planet UK, if you get a chance to have a look.

Not silly at all Osc. You must be enjoying retirement giving you enough time to wallow with leaky eyes. A giraffe and her baby were standing on the rough track in front of our coach in Namibia. The driver stopped and we all sat in silence watching these beautiful animals as they gazed back at us with pretty and curious eyes.

Giraffes are my second favourite animals in the whole world..elephants being the first.
