Well, from Casa S in France, I can tell you that things are fairly serene. Traffic is down to the usual 7,000 trucks but only a handful of cars.

On the way yesterday Mrs S hand wrote a document, from the PDF on the Web. The first checkpoint asked for a slight change in wording. Not doing the form carries €135 immediate fine.

Today we went to the shops and walked the dogs (another valid activity from the form). I had printed out 14 of the forms.

The shops were mostly stocked. Some obvious omissions, like the fact that hens don't suddenly lay more eggs because people panic, but, generally pretty normal for bread and staples. Mrs S was even able to get two hand dispenser refills.

Talking at the checkout we learned that Wed to Friday was hectic in the shops, but after that it calmed down. Of course they are shut on Sundays so the shops could recover.

Today the shopping was sedate, they have restricted to one trolley per person but even couples were only taking one. We were about the worst but we left a fortnight ago and had a lot to buy.

Nobody is checking the forms here in the countryside, but the possibility still exists.

DIY shops, clothes shops, pretty much everything but food and pharmacy are closed.

It was 23C in the garden and on the walks with the dogs. That was, at least, pleasant and I got the grass cut after coaxing the mower into life. The cover had blown off it and it had been inundated with water.

On the +side, it appears I have won a new job, outside IR35. They are doing the security checks now. So I might be on the move again in 10 days or so. Although the majority of work will be from home

Never mind, we've left all that.... Forms, who needs forms when you can just speak louder - or SHOUT. IR35 and SE are choices, PAYE isn''t. Tough one, eh?

We've taken back control and can bulk buy to our heart's content till stuff runs out, and we know how to queue properly as we do so. Take that Johnny Forriner.

I'm hoping the shelf stripping will calm down.
If you go out and buy three weeks worth of stuff every week, after three weeks you've got six weeks of food still left. After ten weeks you'd have twenty weeks worth of food still left.
Surely you'd run out of room to put it all?

Yes that was my brothers point. Once they all finish stripping the shelves, find they can't fit any more in the freezers and run out of money on the plastic, he'll start ordering online.

WM the French need forms because their laws are very protective of the people. However, with the forms, you attest, legally, to what you are doing.

If you do something else, the full force of the law falls on your head, literally.

As for IR35, it was an aside. There were plenty of articles which stated it was going to damage the economy to implement it. Apparently it was not until covid-19 shafted the economy that they woke up and smelled the coffee.
