I keep getting a message saying that my computer needs cleaning and requires upgrading ,
and that I can upgrade for free using One Safe PC Cleaner 7.

Is it safe to do so?

NO!

Aggers, it is malware and should not even be on your computer. How it got there is anyone's guess but you should take steps to remove it.

Just coming back to say that in the link you might have Malwarebytes from some time ago, if so just update the database before scanning. At.Step 3 you do not need Hitman Pro, you can do without. AdwCleaner is worth the go as it looks in places not usually scanned.

Also you might already have CCleaner that will allow a registry scan, and of course you should use whatever anti-virus program to scan for viruses.

You have confirmed what I thought.

However, as I have not taken any steps to download anything, I can't see that anything requires cleaning.
I will just, therefore, ignore the message.

OK, just do the uninstall thing to get rid, but also do the AV and CCleaner checks.

Better safe than sorry.
