What's for dinner?

We are having hogget. We have never tried it before and I am so hoping that it tastes like the lamb of old!

We love lamb but always complain that it doesn't taste like "lamb used to taste" so we thought we would try some hogget. If it is good then the next full lamb we buy will not be a lamb, but a hogget. (A hogget is a an overwintered lamb between 12 and 18 months old).

We are having it with roast potatoes and parsnips, mashed carrot and swede, peas and cabbage. I was going to make a pudding to go with it but couldn't be bothered!

It smells delicious.

Oh I just adore lamb so I'm sure that will taste gorgeous :D :D I hardly ever do a big joint of it, as neither B nor H like it, so Mick and I usually have a chop or a leg steak when we have it...............

We had a fresh chicken, in garlic and herbs, a Sainsbury's one ready prepared, frozen roasties, frozen yorkies, fresh greens and frozen chunky mixed veg - all easy to cook as Mick and the kids did it :D :lol:

Debih we've had hogget, from the farmers market, it was lovely - we had a pack of diced and made a curry :)

We're having aromatic slow-roast pork, this one:

We've had it several times and it's lovely :) This time I have a piece of leg, the skin has hardly any fat under it so I've left it on. I've untied it, but left it in one piece as it's quite small, and cut a few big incisions into the flesh underneath.
It's just gone in ;)
I got a pack of nice-looking stir-fry veg (Finest, with pak choi, courgette, red spring onions, baby corn) so we'll have that and rice with it, plus the yummy juice :)

Roast chicken, stuffed with lemon, garlic and oregano, boulingere (sorry, rubbish spelling) potatoes, brocolli, cauli and beans.

Enjoy the hogget Debih, never had it but heard about it often enough :)

I've just had a sneeky taste and am a little disappointed with it. :(

It tastes lovely but more like brisket than lamb!

That slow roast pork looks lovely Di.

Maybe you need more than just a little taste :D

It is lovely Debih, and works beautifully in the slow cooker too, though I'd always take off any skin/fat for that.

It was gorgeous! I think the problem when I tasted it was that I took some from the top so got lots of garlic and rosemary.

But when you got down to it - it was absolutely beautiful and tasted so much like the lamb of old.

Hogget will definitely be on the menu again. We will definitely got a whole one although probably not until next year. The butcher told Mick that you can't get them after April and we aren't ready for a whole one before then.

I've never heard of Hogget, so will definitely look out for it and get some from the butcher some time. I assume it's not a cut you'd get at a supermarket (from their butcher counter?) would you - probably butcher or farmers market only?

Di, your pork recipe sounds delicious; I've printed it off and will give it a go sometime very soon.

Ours came from the butchers Meri although I don't think every butchers shop sells it. We did have to shop around somewhat to find some.

I wouldn't have thought you would get it in the supermarket.
