More weight on.

More weight on.

It was weigh in night last night - Millie is up to 13.5 kilos. She is putting on around half a kilo a week. She just seems to eat and eat and eat. :D

4 more kilos and she will be back to her fighting weight.

The maze is going well. It is just so wonderful to be able to put her food down and walk away to leave her to eat. It takes a little time to do (but I am only talking a couple of minutes as opposed to 10 minutes plus for feeding her each time with a spoon). I have to mix the two foods together (she is now on Wainwrights mixed with some AD - although the AD is very expensive we know that it is helping to build her up so decided that until she gets back to her normal weight we would stick to it. And it helps get the Wainwrights to the correct consistency for smearing!) and then smear it around the maze, making sure that it all sticks to the sides and that there are no large lumps.

She has been sick twice since we started using it. Last Thursday I put far too much food in it and she was sick after - sick from eating too much rather than regurgitating. I suppose she is used to lots of small meals now and her tummy couldn't cope with one big one. Then she was sick again on Saturday morning after Mick used the maze for the first time - I don't think he could have smeared it enough so there were lumps that she could get at.

Her leg is fine - after all the problems with the stricture I forget about the leg. She still limps on it sometimes - usually if she has had a good run or if it gets very wet - but it doesn't seem to actually bother her.

She has finished on all the liquid medicine now and just has half a tablet, twice a day, mixed in with her food.

She still tends to have her tail tucked between her legs whilst she eats - I suppose she is conscious that she will be sick afterwards - but I am hoping that this will stop over time. Not that it matters but its just upsetting to see - its as though she doesn't enjoy eating.

I need to speak to Dan about her feeding. I know that her having lumps of food helps to keep the stricture open and of course now she is eating from the maze she is licking at the food and so isn't having any lumps. I think he might want me to still spoon feed her now and again during the week just to get her swallowing lumps - I will wait and see what he says.

Other than having to change her eating habits and not being allowed treats (although she does have the odd small piece of ham, chicken, cheese, etc - its not that she isn't allowed them, its judging whether or not she can swallow them) she is very much back to her old self - something I couldn't have imagined a few weeks ago.
