Might I point out

The Crown Estate is a collection of lands and holdings in the United Kingdom belonging to the British monarch as a corporation sole, making it the "Sovereign's public estate", which is neither government property nor part of the monarch's private estate

I believe the word "belong" works here. Plus the words "neither government property".

The reason that the revenues go to the state and not the Queen or her family are here

The revenues from these hereditary possessions have been placed by the monarch at the disposition of Her Majesty's Government

That is placed at the disposition of, not owned by or mandated by or even forced to. It is placed by the Monarch.

Therefore, this is revenue from the Queen's public estate which is donated to the government under several agreements. As a result of those agreements and acts, she only gets a % of that revenue back.

This is far, far, far, from the press garbage about the Queen costing the country money.

What I want is the nonsense that it is the public taxes which are paying for the Queen. The people pay nothing, the government pays nothing. In fact the people and the government receive from the Queen.

I have always maintained that the monarchy brings in far more in tourist money than it costs us. I would not have their lives for anything, but without them would the Yanks and Japanese still throng to visit the royal palaces, and to watch the pomp and ceremony? I don't think so......

Of course you may, however, they are interpretations by the author of the Wiki piece and are slightly off the mark. Opinions flowing from them are also off the mark.

May I suggest a visit to The Crown Estate where many more factual references and links can be found.

Kaz, I take in what you say, but the displays of pomp and ceremony where the Queen can actually be seen are few and far between. I would argue that most of the visitors who come to "see the Queen" really come to be immersed in the architecture, the splendour and the history of the Monarchy.

The Queen's personal presence does not make them cancel trips to Buckingham Palace, the Tower or Windsor any more than the absence of the Habsburgs, Romanovs or Bourbons stop people visiting Schönbrunn Palace, The Winter Palace or Versailles.

No I think the fact that we have a living, breathing monarchy does make a difference.
