The Bronte Sisters

Did anyone else watch that 2-hour drama-documentary tonight?

Beautifully filmed, strong characterisations - but yet another programme ruined, for us, by incoherent mumbling and inaudible sound-recording.

Shame, really ... :o

There seem to be serious problems with sound these days, within the BBC  It's also an issue during live programmes such as Breakfast, ever since they moved to Salford Quays.

I've recorded this Ossie and now that you've mentioned the sound quality, rather than link it to the TV I shall watch it on my laptop with my headphones and be able to hear things much clearer.

But it shouldn't be like this...

We have the Bose sound box thingy that goes with the TV. It was more expensive than the TV, but has been great.

Having said that however, I have to say they really mumbled a lot last night. However the scenes with Bramwell and the father were fine and clear.

I keep wondering if it is often because they are trying to do northern accents and don't feel terribly confident with it. Thinking back, all the worst incidents of mumbling have been when the actor was doing an accent, mostly northern. Sarah Lancashire was accused of this in the police drama. The only other one where the speech was really bad was Jamaica Inn where he was doing an accent.

Sarah L is a Northerner though I think? Agreed that Jamaica Inn was dire - far too dark as well! Shame as it's a wonderful book...
