I love Marmite too -
It is like cheese, in that it goes with, and enhances, anything.

If I left the UK the one thing I would really miss is proper fish 'n chips.

I tell you what I miss when we go to the US, and I miss it every time.

A nice sandwich.

I don't often eat them here, once a week at most, but have a sandwich over there and they're big enough to feed a family with numerous things filling it. All I want is blinkin' prawn and mayo on wholemeal bread. Or good strong cheese with Branston.

My first time in San Jose.

Arrived in their afternoon, midnight my time.

I had a quick sleep, but then was hungry, early evening their time. I looked out from the balcony and saw a neon KFC sign, That's me I'm off.

I get to the KFC and meet the biggest and blackest person on the planet. She was the bee's...

They do not do what we expect in the UK. You can get pieces and sides and... So I go for three pieces, mash and gravy...

"How you gettin' home, man?
"Walk, same as I got here."
"No you ain't soldier, I is getting you a taxi home."
"Why?"
"Man, you just walked thru the roughest part of town."

:| Had pretty much an exact replica of that conversation on my only visit to the USA in 1974. Substitute Miami for San Jose and local baseball game for KFC .....

A bit of a wake-up call for two very naïve British tourists.
