TV Problem

I recently cancelled my Sky subscription and have moved over to BT - well it's all happening as of 8th April... but I now realise that I may have a teeny weeny (well big) problem in that BT requires a TV aerial. That in itself isn't a problem as my flat has one and it works just fine; however the problem is that said aerial socket is in the dining room and the BT box etc will be in the lounge. The way my flat was extended and amended means getting from the one room to the other you have to go round a few corners (it really is a very odd layout that flat).

The quickest option obviously will be to run a coax cable from the existing socket all the way round the flat to the lounge, but that's going to look very messy. So just wondering what the other options are if anyone has any clever ideas. The only other thing I can think of but don't know if it can be done is somehow connect a 2nd cable to the actual aerial and run it around the outside of the house and then into the lounge that way. But how easy is that to do.

I suspect I'm going to have to get an aerial engineer into the house to come help me but it would be beneficial if I at least have an idea of what I'm talking about.

I've opted for self installation; there was an option for £50 for BT to do that, but suspect that won't include running any cables?

Ria, providing the aerial gets a good signal the 2nd option sounds fine. The cable on the outside can be hidden under soffitt boards and behind drainpipes till it needs to enter the flat. I have a similar setup with lounge and bedroom and it works even with both TVs on.

Unless you are right next to the transmitter I would stay away from an indoor aerial, even a powered db gain one - total con.

When we moved here there was a sky dish outside
The sky engineer ran a phone cable across the hall from the phone connection
Across the front room into the sky box
Set up sky then plugged the cable back into my phone in the front room

Frank, I'm really hoping there is a way to attach a 2nd cable to the current aerial. It work just fine (the TV in the dining room is connected via the socket in that room) And attaching another cable around the outside of the house won't be a problem - there already are two sky cables (one for my back bedroom and one for upstairs) so we can just cable tie onto that

Kaz, I do hope Mick has a magic answer but suspect that the 2nd cable will be the only viable option.

Aerial socket is in the dining room and is currently being used for a small smart TV I have in there
Main TV that will be connected to all things BT will be in the lounge


I have a telephone socket and power points where the main TV (and router) will be but no normal standard aerial plug

Ria, it's not a broadband or router issue, it's a simple (airwave) signal feed; broadband and telecoms has nothing to do with it.

If your initial feed is via an aerial, as mine is, then all you need is a TV aerial outlet wherever you want it. Once you have that you can almost do what you like with it. My system is TalkTalk, with a smart TV box. I then run this via my electric mains, with adaptors, to and from my laptop.

I can use my laptop as a TV, or my TV as an extension of my laptop.

But as I understand it all you want to do is watch TV in a different room. Put a direct feed line from the aerial to that place and you are done.

We have an aerial attached to the chimney.
There is a spliter box attached to it, with one cable going to the rear of the house and one to the font of the house.
We have two TVs, one in the lounge and a bigger one in the sitting room at the back of the house.
We get good reception on both of them. We are on Freeview at the moment. We are only about 15 miles from the transmitter with no obstructions so this helps.
