Gal there is probably nothing wrong with Go-Cat although Simon calls it McDonalds for cats, but it just seems strange that after a few weeks on it both of mine nearly died. Mowgli from his pancreatitis and hepatitis and Mia from her heart and kidney problems.

Gal, personally I don't see why you couldn't start feeding Smudge on Butchers. My Ava who is now 9 months old has never been on kitten food - right from when I got her at 4 months old (gosh I can't believe I've only had her 5 months )she's been on adult foods, admittedly which she was also getting from the people I got her from. In your case, just make sure you do the change over slowly, ie mix what you're feeding now with a bit of the butchers, gradually increasing the amount of butchers until it's that only.

Also, when I adopted Abbie and Jamie at 5 months old, I already had Molly who then was 13. I asked the vet because ideally Molly should have had senior and Abbie and Jamie kitten food given their respective ages and the vet very rightly pointed out that in the days gone by there wasn't any of the senior or kitten food around and cats grew to a happy healthy age without them. So go for it....

Do you know I just might! Everything I have for him is "kitten"....biscuits and pouches, but I'm sure he's easily adapt to adult food - it's not like he doesn't eat everything he shouldn't to begin with!!

When this lot of pouches are nearly gone, I will mix adult food, as you describe, and take it from there Having only ever had one cat at a time, I've not thought about the fact that adult cats and kittens living in the same house will just eat each other's grub

Gal, I got Ava end of August last year and she's just been the best thing ever. I was having problems with the rest of the gang previously and she's just brought them all together; it's quite astounding what difference just one cat more or less can make to a happy feline household. Touch wood it stays like this for a good few years yet

Ava is a hoover and will push the others out the way to eat their food so there was no way I could have even tried to feed her kitten food only. She's become quite podgy sadly and I need to start watching and restrict what she's eating. I've put both her and me on a bit of a 'watch what you're eating' plan

We got Smudge on 19th August, he was 7 weeks old. I did struggle with the decision to get him, we'd only lost Tinker in July (21st, the day after my birthday ) and I was still grieving for him so much.....but Jen thought a new kitten would help, and we both missed having a cat in the house, so we bit the bullet

Of course he is a very different cat to Tinker. No cats are the same, but he really was a one off, bless him. Smudge is adorable but although I adore him, Tinker will always have a special place in my heart. Smudge is (we think) a dog/cat, he loves water - actually stands in shallow bath water (!!) and behaves as though he is a puppy much of the time

Gal, definitely try the Butchers Classics for cats. Candy absolutely loves it and is gulping it down as if it's going out of fashion! Tuffty and Kaya(the dog) are also loving it and their bowls are always licked clean.
Another bonus, for me, is the fact it doesn't smell anywhere as bad as most wet cat food does!
Meriad, I was going to try the Almo Nature for Candy but want to speak with the vet first as I want to make sure that she is being tested more often while trying her with it though, tbh, I'm thinking of just giving her the Butchers for a few more weeks yet and seeing how she goes as she does seem to love it.

Gal I recognise your feelings for Tinker. My last dog, Brandy, holds a very special place in my heart. After she died I didn't want another dog as I knew they could never replace her. Bruv got a puppy and I held myself back from her at first. However she gradually wormed her way in, so much so that after two years, she moved into my house and stayed!! Eight years on I couldnt imagine life without her and love her to bits. Brandy will always be my special doggy but, when I stop to think of it, I now feel like that about Kaya too- I guess each pet brings it's own special magic into our lives.
