Di - I totally agree now is not the time for either you or Debih; which is why I said when the time comes and both dogs are back to normal :) But no, definitely not now

Right now the focus is to get both of them to eat and ID is fantastic and best for them as it's a very high nutrient food and they don't need as much of that as they do of normal tinned food.

I think part of the reason she won't look at even one piece of her normal food is that it's dry and needs too much energy to eat it.
You can see her getting tired as she eats; she then goes just outside for a drink and has to stand for a few minutes to recover before staggering a few paces for a wee.
It's not all gloom though, she's very definitely more alert and interested in her surroundings today - when she's awake :)

Di, I wonder if you emailed or wrote to Wainwrights, explained about Minnie and asked if they could send you a sample or two for her to try?

We used to feed Millie a raw food diet when she was a puppy Meri. She really enjoyed it and I found it easy enough to do.

Then she had a bout of colitis and we had to change how we fed her and never went back to raw food - it was just so much easier to give her a mug of dried food.

She always used to have a dried complete food for working dogs along with lots of scraps of meat and veg, until the accident. Now she has to have the wet food so that we can get it to a consistency to get it down her - its the swallowing that's the problem with Millie rather than her stomach and the food we give her.

I don't think she will ever be back on completely dry food again as she will always have the stricture and therefore her osophogus might not be able to cope with lumps (so no treats, biscuits, etc). Once her weight is back up to where it should be we will probably put her back on the dried biscuits but soaked in water to make them easier to go down.

I think it will be lots of trial and error to see what suits her best but at the moment the main focus is keeping the food at a consistency that she can swallow and getting her to gain some weight.

We are quite lucky in that although our nearest pets at home is about 9 miles away the head at L's primary school (who is the friend that told me about it) lives almost next door to one so she has said that she can always pick me some up as long as I give her a couple of days notice.

Di when we had Tinker and he was ill with the kidney problem, someone advised Viovet and it was excellent for his meds! All I needed was a vet's prescription which I scanned and emailed to the company, who then dispensed the meds at a fraction of the cost of what I'd pay at the vets.

Hugs and fusses for Minnie xxx
