Bone Scan

I have not been feeling one hundred percent since my disastrous cataract removal. I have written to PAL NHS with respect to the idiot who put me through such terrible agony. My eye is still giving me problems.
I had a call from my Oncologists secretary concerned that I had cancelled my bone scan appointment. I told her I have had enough and have decided to cancel my hospital appointment.. Anyway having been in a great deal of discomfort and my daughter nagging me twenty four hours a day I rang the hospital and said I would go ahead with the scan. I was told I could go for it any day next week at a time convenient to myself ( I could not believe it).
However "I have a six months wait to see a skin specialist" having been diagnosed during my last visit with Bowens ,and the suggestion that if I wanted to see the specialist sooner "I could go to the Nuffield at the cost of £150 and I could see the specialist tomorrow" following which I read it could cost me anything up to £600 for the removal of the skin problem that looks the same as the last problem that was removed.
I could not believe the costs, my children offered to pay the £150 between them. Six months wait? "Anything to do with my old age would you think?"

No actually Kate, I firmly believe it's nothing whatsoever to do with your age, it's to do with priorities.
Why else would they be so accommodating about your bone scan?

And why on earth did you cancel it previously, the scan is nothing, you have an injection, wait a couple of hours, then just lie there (no tunnel, it's all open).
And have you been taking the paracetamol? At the proper dose, ie 2x500mg up to four times a day?
Regardless of the scan results, paracetamol are brilliant for bone pain and take years to cause any kind of liver damage, if at all at the recommended dose.
I'm sorry if I sound cross but there is no need whatsoever for you to be in pain/discomfort when there is such a simple solution.
And if paracetamol aren't enough there are other, perfectly safe, drugs to help as well.

My lovely friend's best friend is now completely disabled and quite literally falling apart because she adamantly refused to take extra calcium, vitamin D and bisphosphonates for her osteoporosis.
None are in any way dangerous and would (not could!) have prevented this.
She could now be perfectly fit and healthy instead of totally reliant on others and confined to a wheelchair.

I love you to bits Kate and very much want you to feel better for the many years you no doubt have ahead of you (((xx)))

I should not go on about my problems Di, but I have been so depressed for some time. I have had bone scans previously, I was and am just so fed up with one thing after the next health wise. I should not complain Di, I have reached the age of 82 so I should be thankful I suppose, and I know there are those young and of all ages who are suffering and are in serious conditions. I apologise for my thoughtlessness. Xxx

. I could see you were being helpful Di. Misunderstandings do happen from time to time on line Lissie and I am sure no one sets out to hurt any poster. We all get under pressure at times and I am grateful that I have felt able to express myself now and again.
We are lucky to have such a great site where we can voice our concerns and opinions.xxx

Sorry to hear of your problems.
I had an operation in July to remove a cataract and have not had any problems. It may be due to the name of the surgeon who did it, a Mr Heaven.
My wife has arthritus in her legs. But it is not stooping her going out and dancing. She had a cousin whoi was a nurse and she used to say if it is not broken, don't try and fix it.
But sometimes medical treatment can help so as others have said, have the scan and be very firm and say you want the other treatment as soon as possible, and you are not prepared to wait six months.Just say you want it done by the end of September 2015.

What lovely posts cruiser.. Yes. The cataract op really set me back, strained my stomach badly having my feet firmly held down by two hefty male nurses. The pain was agonising but the fool of a surgeon still carried on. So pleased yours went well. The doc said he recommended I have a general anaesthetic to remove the other cataract..There is No way would I let the butcher near me again..
"He said he could not remember me" Well I never go to the hospital without taking a gift for the nurses and doctor. Three boxes off chocolates for the girls and a bottle of vintage port (that I don't drink given to me for my birthday) for the doctor.. Llandindrod is a cottage hospital, I have sung its praises in the press over the years it is a super establishment I think I must have caught the man on a bad day and I was the only one to suffer for doing so. Any way I will not go on about my problems any longer I appreciate yours and everyone's thoughtful posts.. I shall be pleased to get tomorrow over and done with. Great to hear your dear wife still dances .. It's only recently that I have not been so energetic. And am feeling tired.
