I had a Suzuki Jimny, back in England, which was brilliant for driving in Bristol and a friend had a Rav 4, but I think they're permanent 4 wheel drive. We both like the Toyota, but they're expensive over here.

In fact, cars over here are very expensive

OK, Ria, yesterday I had my Nissan Note, bought from Aggers, serviced and MOTd. It flew through. :D

In the showroom was a Dacia Sandero 1.2, no fancy engines and expensive turbos. Dacia is now owned by Renault and the car felt good and well built.

Then I saw the new Nissan Micra on offer for £49 per month.

Given the prices of these new small engined cars, and if I was in the market, I would now buy brand new, keep it dealer serviced once out of guarantee, and run it into the ground over ten or 12 years.

Thanks Frank - the Nissan note is another one I'm looking at size wise so off to gander at their website and call them in the morning. As for buying new and driving into the ground, that's exactly what I've done now - bought my Seat in April 2002 brand new, got 72k on the clock but the body etc is falling apart (not the engine!) He'll soon need a new exhaust, new gearbox, the door membranes need replacing... OK if you are mechanically minded but for me, the labour pricing is just not feasible

I know it's a daft thing but one of the key criteria for me is that I, in an emergency, need to be able to fit 4 or 5 cat carriers into the car somehow. Admittedly not sure I'd be able to do it with my current car which is a Seat Ibiza ;) but I didn't have all my furry family when I bought it. In those days I was sensible   and only had two

As far as boot space is concerned both the Note and Sandero would fit your bill, Ria. Both have a selection of engine sizes to suit most needs, esp round town and small runs. They are both small, but not micro cars in the way the Fiat 500/600, Peugeot 106 or Renault Clio are.

Have a hunt on the 'net, but don't give out your real ident. ;)

I did look at the Piccanto a few months back Lizzie, but it is just that bit too small for me. My sister has a Kia Rio and loves it so I'm going to call them tomorrow as well to see about any HP deals vs personal finance deals they have

Thanks Kaz - again one I'd have thought out my price range but need to give them a ring

Toyota have a good reputation in SA (not that that is anything to go on really LOL)
