Short-cut icons

Short-cut icons

Postby Aggers » 08 Jul 2015, 11:50

On my laptop's opening page I have short-cut icons for the websites I frequently use.

This morning they appeared in a different order, with different designs, and with some addition
icons for websites I never use, such as Facebook, Google & Baidu Browser (whatever that is).
Also my bookmark bar, that had been missing for months, had now reappeared.

I don't have any problem, but I just wonder how these things can possibly happen.

Any idea?

I'm guessing that there has been an automatic update Aggers.

But I'm not at all techy so it is just a guess!

My initial thought was the same as Debih's, but I would also do a belt-and-braces check with Norton.

I thought that IE did a fairly significant update recently. Could be that as others are thinking.

Also there are constant Windows Updates which add new things and refresh others. I'm having a running battle with Windows 10 on that front. It keeps putting back crapware I've removed....

I'm more or less back to normal now.

As well as the changes to my icons, some other funny things have been happening.
I found that the facility for automatically logging in to my regular websites had gone, and I have had to enter my signing-in particulars again.
On one of my regular websites, I was refused admission every time I tried. (I was using a new password I had put in a few months ago), so I
tried using instead my old password - and that worked !

My only problem now is that the script on this website (Vocal Voices) is now so small I can hardly read it. Any ideas?

John, go to the Settings cog, top right in IE, select Zoom then select Custom. In the new panel set it to 100% - or any figure to suit - and click OK.

If it's IE, the keystroke is Ctrl+* or Ctrl+0 if you don't have a numeric keypad. That should reset the browser to the correct zoom.

For passwords, you might want to check the Norton Settings. It clears form data automatically and you have to disable it if you don't want it to. I haven't bothered and I have to re-enter my banking id every month or so. This is not a major issue for me as I like that but it can be annoying if you don't.

Idiot me! I did a typo....
In the new panel set it to 100% - or any figure to suit - and click OK.

The 100% should read 115% and I should also have said that that it sets every tab to 115% when they are opened. I use it at 110% and have never had any issues with sites at that level. It just makes things easier to read.

That sounds easy, Frank, but I haven't a clue. I presume 'IE' means Internet Explorer, but If I put 'Internet explorer' in the search box and click it, a Google Search page appears with a note on the bottom, 'would you like to make Internet Explorer your default browser?' After all the recent trouble I've had with my laptop, I don't feel inclined to start altering anything in the system. With regard to the small print, my main problem was in Vocal Voices, but I've found the little gadget there which can be clicked to enlarge the print, so I'm not too concerned about it now.

Thanks anyway for your efforts to help.

If you are not using IE, then Control+0 set's the page to the default size.

Just for when you need it...
