The leylandi are being cut down to shut the neighbour`s up!!

Postby lissie » 02 Jun 2015, 07:40

Good Morning all :D
We are having a load of leylandi trees etc cut down today.
The tree man has just arrived and it is pouring with rain and
blowing an absolute gale.
I hardly slept all night with the noise of the wind blowing things
around.
He says he will start at the bottom of the garden where it is more
sheltered and work his way up and hope the wind abates.

Yes Ton--like idiots we planted them 24 years ago. We bought them in Woolworths and they
were advertised as slow growing. They are now about 30ft high and we have agreed to
have them cut down to 5ft. Neighbour then says he will pay for and erect a 6ft fence so
i suppose that is fair enough. We have got to find £600 today :o :o :o :o

They are shockers, and grow like wildfire, but were terribly popular back then  I suppose the 'up' side of spending all that money is that you will both have more sunshine in your gardens? :D

Leylandii are a nuisance tree though Lissie, glad you've agreed to chop them down. And £600 sounds like a fair good deal if I may say so - my brother paid about £300 just to have 5 much smaller regular conifers cut back and removed. And I can tell you that your neighbour will end up paying a lot more for a fence than you are for having the trees chopped down.

Just a "word of caution" for want of a better way of putting it. Having had the trees as your fence line would have been a perfect wind break; your neighbour now putting a solid fence in their place will probably end up in a bit of a windier garden

But as Kaz says - the extra light and sunshine for all parties will be a huge benefit

They will Kaz but we won`t as we have 2 huge trees in the middle of the garden
about 40ft tall. We will get him to give us a price to cut them and a large
Ash tree that makes such a mess.

lissie we had a row of leylandie once but left the estate before they got to tall
they are really a menace
saw in the dm yesterday about a house in scotland were they now have a law about tall trees
and they have to be cut down
its good of your neighbours tho to pay for a fence
your garden will be so much lighter
take some pics and get the tea made and bacon butties
