I'm with Mick, I could not lie still for hours. I need to be up and about and I hate the heat too.

I don't like cities either, too crowded.

Tim says I'm hard to please but I'm not I am the easiest person ever, sadly also the most boring :(

I have absolutely zilch interest in going abroad. But thats just me ....... plus like you we don't have passports .....

Not just you, MM. :D

My passport runs out this year and I'm not going to renew it (too much hassle, need fresh countersigned photo as it's a White-feathered Ostrich these days, and I've got nobody I know who is able to verify me, sad person that I am. )

We last went abroad about 20 years ago, and that was only a weekend break to Dublin ...... plenty to see and do in this country, IMHO.

Right, so there's your solution - when your sister takes the girls away for the week, you and Mick go away somewhere lovely, just the two of you. Doesn't have to be exotic, for example bring the car to Ireland, lots to see and do, some nice hotels, potter around doing the sights, enjoy good food, and just have a whole week to yourselves doing what you want. Then put aside a decent sum towards a family holiday abroad next year.

On the subject of passports, I know the initial layout seems a lot, but do they last for 10 years over there as they do here? Did you say £275? That's only £27.50 a year and getting them now would cover the girls for school trips until they are finished school. I would never be without a valid passport because you never know when you might need it ;) Also, do not be waiting until the girls have upped and left to do things - none of us knows what lies ahead.

I know you are right Osc but it's hard getting out of the scrimping for holiday mentality.

And as Mick is self employed we have to cover his earnings for whilst we are away before we go.

We can't go whilst the girls are away because of my holiday restrictions at work but it is something I'm going to look at for term time. They can stay at my mums and it won't be too much for her as they'll be at school all week.

Actually I can understand as we both put away a little every week towards holidays and weekends away. But with this lump sum, you can put away a sum equal to the earnings and it would be one less thing to worry about. When we had the post office, we had to have the money for our holiday relief before anything else, and it was a large part of the overall holiday cost, I can tell you.

I haven't had a passport since my last one ran out 8 years ago. Really glad we didn't renew it then, as it would only have 2 years left to run making a very expensive purchase. I suppose needing one doesn't enter into my thought process Osc as we never ever would. I am bit unstuck when it comes to photo ID as I don't have any, but so far I have managed without

We spent a long time, trying to get ours renewed, without having to spend a blinkin' fortune - and have only used them once.

I may use mine this year or next ;) :D :D :D
