The sound of summer has started.....

Postby miasmum » 07 Apr 2015, 09:11

sadly not the birds, or the lawnmowers or even children giggling like at WM's

No, the sound of summer here is next doors son kicking his football against the wall for hours and hours and hours. I can hear it even with the doors and windows closed and in the garden it is horrendous.

It starts about 9.30 and goes on until dark. He does have a break for dinner thankfully.

Tim was in the bath last night and he said "does he ever stop kicking that flipping (well it might have been another word) football"

He also kicks it against the fence which loosens the feather lap panels and then Humphrey gets through.

It slowly drives me mad, well not slowly to be honest after 3 years I now dread summer

I think we might have to have a word about the fence panels, because that is annoying, but other than that its his garden he can do what he wants. My sister in law says you choose to live in a family home without a family, you have to put up with what families do and their kids kick balls. I suppose she is right too

If he is kicking the ball against his own house wall I do not suppose there is much to be done, but the fencing panels area different matter. Words should be had about those, they might also have the effect of moderating his other kick abouts.

It's really difficult isn't it Shell. We had trouble with a child next door to us at our old house - there was a shared drive just over a car's width wide between the houses and their son would play football in that space well after our boys were in bed and the ball would be hitting the wall, the windows and bouncing up on the roof - but according to his Dad, his "kids can do wtf they want!" and there started the War of W/ton Rd where our property would be vandalised whenever we went away and insults and threats would be shouted up at open windows.

I can see (kind of) what your SIL means, but agreeing that the fence panel thing just isn't on :( Damaging your property! :?

Harry kicks a ball for ages against the back of the neighbouring garage which forms part of our 'fence' but that's not going to damage it or cause a noise nuisance because of the positioning :? If he was doing what your neighbour's lad is doing I would stop him! It might well be a family estate, but some consideration for others is not asking too much IMHO!

We have the same problem, MM, in fact I was out today hammering nails back into the overlapping fencing panels where they are loose.

In fact we have double the problem. At the back, there is a boy who practices his football in the garden and despite a full size set of goal posts, our fence has been slightly damaged and we get countless balls over into our back garden. This has been going on for about three years. Last year, I adopted the policy of returning the balls but either (a) my aim was a bit wayward, so they might have ended up in one of his neighbouring gardens or (b) I quietly dropped them over the fence so they finished up lodged behind a tall thick shrub in his garden .....   (slapped-wrist emoticon)

The kids at the front use a public parking space in the neighbouring cul-de-sac, but our interceding fence is the goal. Thing is, the fence is not our responsibility, it is the responsibility of the dopey Heart Housing Association or whatever they call themselves these days. So as soon as there is recognisable damage, I'll be on to their area superintendent ......

This morning the mum was out weeding her front drive, so we had a chat. Her daughter was with her so I asked where Jake was. On his x-box she said rolling her eyes, he spends more and more time on there, growing up I suppose. OH YES!!!!!
