On Friday afternoon I placed an online order for some 100% Egyptian cotton percale duvet sets and fitted sheets. They arrived on Saturday morning so I washed and dried them and. sort of, ironed them.

Yesterday I put one set on the bed. What a night's sleep!

my favourite is in the summer when you can line dry the washing and you take it fresh off the line and onto the bed (and no - I don't iron bedding! ). it's just the best fresh smell ever

£71 inc postage, for two deep sided fitted sheets, two duvet covers and eight pillowcases. The percale is 280 TC, which is about hotel standard.

Ria, I dodn't do ironing of bed linnen either, or lots of other things for that matter. but after the first wash to remove the sizing they were a bit stiff.

that's a good price Frank. I've got cheap bedding (but it is 100% cotton) because I boil wash mine every week / 2nd week. And I figured doing that probably drastically reduces the life span of most things so I may as well buy cheapish if I need to replace annually anyway

although saying that, my fitted sheets are from The White Company and they've lasted really really well (also get boil washed)

Di, to give you an idea - my cheap bedding is from Ikea and it's £18 for one cover and two pillow cases, no fitted sheet. A good fitted sheet - esp if they're deep ones - will set you ack about £20 each.

That sounds about right, Ria. £20 to £25 for a middling duvet set with two pillowcases and £15 to £20 for a good fitted sheet, deep sided ones really are worth it - so £35 for one of the cheapest set.

I do a 60ºC with pre-wash for bedding as I think it does need more than say refreshing T-shirts and things.

Oh just to say that the Primark 100% cotton sheets (high thread count) actually scored far above much more expensive ones in a comparison in the DM last week

Yes, it’s a mere 200 thread, but who’s counting? It’s £9.50 and it feels like ten times that price. Even my husband, Mark, noticed the difference and this is a man who prides himself on once failing to spot that I had a leg in plaster. 5/5
